WHAT WE DO

Adults with autism or intellectual disabilities (ID) are nearly twice as likely to have unmet medical needs as the average adult, suffer with more untreated illnesses, and have more than twice the average death rate for common causes. Healthcare disparities are so great that the AMA has recommended that those with ID be designated as a Medically Underserved Population.

The Right Care Now Project has been developed by physicians dedicated to making healthcare for adults with autism and intellectual disabilities accountable and effective.

Our Vision

We envision a future in which no adult living with autism or intellectual disability (ID) suffers needlessly because of inexpert or inadequate healthcare.

Our Mission

We are dedicated to assuring that all adults with autism or ID have access to appropriate, timely care. We do this by developing care standards and novel monitoring systems informed by our research, service and educational activities.

Technology for Better, Accountable Care

We have developed a unique monitoring system to gather and interpret accurate health and quality-of-life information for adults with ID. Our system regularly assesses the health of individuals, determines change in health and well-being, and identifies those at risk of worsening health. Our staff will regularly notify and assist guardians, state agencies and caregivers of those clients who are at risk, and those whose health and/or function has declined without intervention, to assure prompt evaluation and prevent worsening health and prolonged suffering. We assist with evaluations, consult to caregivers to make sure that each patient receives state-of-the-art expertise, and we recheck to be sure the care was timely and effective.

Education, Research and Policy Change

As a registry, the monitoring system allows us to learn the best, most efficient way to provide excellent care to the most vulnerable among us – information that is invaluable for provider education, staff education, and policy development.
