As a team of doctors with over 20 years of experience caring for individuals with intellectual disabilities, we recognize the challenges adults with IDD face when they need to find expert care.
• More than half of all direct service providers leave their job within a year, so caregivers are often new and don’t recognize when a change in someone’s function or behavior means that a health issue may be brewing – until it becomes a crisis.
• Even worse- many doctors report that they don’t’ have the expertise to properly care for those with D/ID. Most doctors also find that getting the information necessary for diagnosing is difficult and time-consuming, as many adults with IDD have communication challenges.
Working with nationally recognized experts and eClinicalWorks, one of the largest health information technology providers in the US, we develop data-driven tools that:
We let caregivers and advocates know a problem is brewing, and how to get the right help
We alert healthcare providers to issues before they become crises, and give all providers the information necessary to provide expert-level care
Our tools use nonverbal cues to find evidence of a sexual assault, and notify caregivers and advocates to guide reporting, treatment referrals, and prevention of future incidents
Patients, with their caregivers or advocates, log into our secure, HIPAA compliant website, and answer questions about function, health and daily activities. Our system then uses that information to help detect serious and often-missed health problems.
Our experienced team, in consultation with national experts caring for those with IDD, have developed methods using this data to detect serious and often-missed health problems such as:
